Wycombe Wanderers Sport & Education Trust Introduces ‘DoorSteppers’ Programme

WWSET is excited to launch our new ‘DoorSteppers’ initiative to support local people who are struggling with the effects of Covid-19.

Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust is launching a new programme to help combat loneliness, isolation and inactivity amongst the elderly, those living alone and people living with a mental health issue.

The ‘DoorSteppers’ programme will see members of the WWSET team support local people, who due to covid, might have started to feel lonely, worried about going outside or has increased a mental health problem, we will be supporting these people through face-to-face chats at their doorstep. Our team will encourage people to talk through any issues they may have, develop personalised goals and plans, which will lead towards improved mental health and well-being, and empower them to take part in gradual exercise on the doorstep.

The National Lottery Communities Fund have funded an incredible £66,000 which will enable WWSET to support 80 people in the High Wycombe over the next 6months.

Sam White, WWSET’s Head of Health, said, “I am ever so grateful to The National Lottery Community Fund and the Government for providing the funding to make this project happen.”

“Having delivered Keep Moving Forward, a mental health project, within the community for over 3 years, we understand the difficulties a lot of people are facing and how to provide solutions to give them some friendly advice and tips on how to cope and thrive during this difficult time.”

COVID-19 has led to many people in the High Wycombe community feeling lonely, stuck in a rut staying inside or scared at the prospect of returning to normality. DoorSteppers will provide the community with a safe and friendly way to ease those worries.
