Wycombe Wanderers Foundation Employability Days

Wycombe Wanderers Foundation recently hosted over 120 young people from We-Activate for their NCS youth programme experience. The NCS programme helps young people explore who they are and what they want to be. The 2 employability days were hosted at Adams Park the home of Wycombe Wanderers Football Club and focused on media and communication careers in football.

The day consisted of educational workshops delivered in commentary by Head of Broadcasting Phil Catchpole and Videography by Media & Communications Executive Luke Jarrett. The young people also had the opportunity to take a behind the scenes look at Adams Park during their stadium tour lead by ex-WWFC legends Vince Faulkner & Keith Samuels sharing experiences of their playing days with the Chairboy’s.

We-Activate Director Toby Mitchell said “the students had a great time and especially enjoyed the media and commentary workshops. The staff at the club were helpful and enthusiastic which always goes along way when you’re dealing with teenagers.”

The days were both engaging and inspiring with feedback from the young people including:

I really enjoyed the past players and the staff members interactions as they are all so passionate about the club which really showed the importance of it.

I liked learning about what it takes to become a commentator and how hard it is to chose the right words to say.

Very insightful stadium tour, very fun. Keith and Vince were great and really knew their stuff.

Very engaging. Phil was great with advice of how to get into commentary.

Interesting, not very interested in football yet still found it enjoyable. Videographer was gave a real good insight to someone working media for a football club.

All the sessions were great and Phil’s commentary is really inspiring.

Learnt a lot, interesting to get a viewpoint into a wide range of different jobs while also getting to see the stadium and get an idea of something’s you wouldn’t usually get to see.

Interesting in sight into commentary and the skills behind it. Good because Phill made sure that it wasn’t just about football but the bigger picture.

Was good, lots of good knowledge very insightful information.

Our employability days rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
