WWSET launch new Training Experience

Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust (WWSET) are delighted to announce the launch of our new Matchday Training Experience, aimed exclusively at giving local teams in the High Wycombe and South Buckinghamshire area access to top-quality professional coaching at an affordable price.

The Matchday Training Experience starts with a 90-minute training session to be held on a half-pitch at Cressex Astroturf in High Wycombe. The pitch is the highest quality 3G pitch and makes for a smooth and competitive playing surface, and will be facilitated by a member of WWSET’s amazing coaching team who all hold qualifications from the FA and/or UEFA.

After the warm-up drills and small-sided games, the teams finish with a fun game of ‘Football Bingo’, where they had to try and complete a number of football skills to tick off the whiteboard. Skills included the ‘Stepover’, ‘Megnuts’, ‘Beans on Post’ and a ‘Sweaty Goal’ (this is a FIFA term – ask the kids!), and also encouraged players to beat two players consecutively and score a goal from long range – something that was tried to a mixed degree of success this weekend!

The first club to take us up on the offer of a Matchday Training Experience was Ickenham Youth FC, whose players, staff and parents joined us on Saturday 20th November 2021. As you can see from the photos below, the weather mostly held out for us, but it’s fair to say that there was a nip in the air. But none of that mattered once the play got going, as the muscles soon adapted to the temperature and the skills on show added a bit of heat to the morning. The first session was held by WWSET’s, Lewis Bloom, who holds an MSc in Sports Coaching Science, and holds a UEFA B Licence. He’s also an engaging coach who runs a tough but fun session for the players.

Regular readers will of course be familiar with Ickenham Youth, as they ran out with one of the four trophies at our prestigious Adams Park Cup tournament back in May. Their under-9’s side beat all before them to claim the trophy and the glory in their distinctive yellow Nike shirts with black trim and blue shorts and socks.

The staff, parents and players from Ickenham Youth completed the Matchday Training Experience session and then headed to Adams Park to watch Wycombe Wanderers take on Bolton Wanderers in a ‘Battle of the Wanderers’ fixture for the ages, and a designated ‘Wonder of Wycombe’ fixture that included fireworks and special guest appearances. After a tough run of form, the Chairboys finally converted their recent good performances into results as they claimed a 1-0 win over Ian Evatt’s Bolton, holding firm and gaining the Blues first clean sheet since mid-October. It was great to have Ickenham Youth with us to see the game!

The Matchday Training Experience, along with all of the perks, location, coaches and equipment (balls, bibs, goals) is a bargain at only £150.00 per package (ex-VAT) and is sure to be of interest to any aspiring club who wish to benefit from world-class training from Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust coaches.

More information is coming soon, as is a promotional video shot on the day – keep your eyes peeled for that – but if you would like to be trained by the best and want to know more information and register your interest, you can contact WWSET Activities Programme Manager, Andy Homent who is contactable at andrew.homent@wwfc.com or call (01494) 455736.
