Whilst all Wycombe fans are currently nervous and excited in equal measure regarding the upcoming last match of the season away at Burton Albion on Saturday, the result of which will play a huge part in determining whether the Chairboys reach the play-offs, there’s a group of four fans who are perhaps more nervous than most…
Thats because they’ve taken the decision to cycle the 130-mile route to the Pirelli Stadium as a fundraiser for Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust, the official charity of the Chairboys.
Setting off from Adams Park at 6.30am on Friday 30th April, Keith Archer, Steve Baskerville, George Taylor and Head of WWSET Paul Foley will pedal through parts of Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, the West Midlands and into Staffordshire hoping to arrive at the Pirelli Stadium sometime around 8.30pm. After a well earned sleep, they’ll then join the rest of the Wycombe fans at Saturdays match ready to help cheer the team on to a much-needed victory.
Before departing Wycombe’s home stadium on the morning of the mammoth challenge, which involves nearly 1000ft of climbing within just the first few miles of the ride, Paul had this to say:
“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t full of fear regarding what the next 14 hours or so are going to hold in store, but I’m also exciting and looking forward to getting going. In addition to the personal challenge involved for all four of us, this ride is primarily about raising funds for WWSET which will allow us to continue offering opportunities to local people which help them to be happier and healthier moving forward. We’ll look forward to keeping people updated on our progress throughout the day via our social media channels and fingers crossed we’ll raise a good sum of money to enable WWSET to continue facilitating positive impact within the local community.”
Keith Archer added:
“WWSET has done a great job supporting the local community during lockdown, so any donation is massively appreciated! The trust does loads of great work outside of football and has been pivotal in supporting those in need over the last tough few years so any money raised will be going towards a great cause.”
The #StadiumToStadium ride is also being used as a way to remember local man and WWFC (and Spurs) fan James Goodband who tragically passed away in 2018. Keith is a close friend of the Goodband family and has previously raised money for WWSET in James’ memory. The thoughts of all riders will be with James throughout the day.
