Today sees the WWSET Education Team launch a new writing competition as part of Future Goals Programme, with Year six from Oakridge School and Year 5 from Carrington Junior School. Kindly supported by John Vipond of Chiltern Historics along with Luke Saunders and Hans Cook founder of Cap’n’ Chino, pupils have to write about their passion and challenges they have faced recently. Using Darius Charles as their inspiration, pupils have to construct a persuasive letter demonstrating how their passion has helped overcome the challenge of lockdown.
Pupils from schools taking part were shown a video of John, Luke, Hans and Darius talking about how their passion has helped them overcome challenges in their life. The main prize on offer, kindly donated by John, is a framed Darius Charles match shirt from the WWFC promotion winning season.
Judging the entries will be Darius Charles himself along with, John, Luke, Hans as well as members of the football club board, Trevor Stroud and Missy Couhig, Peter Lerner a trustee of WWSET will also be on the judging panel.
We are looking forward to bringing together different areas of the community to unite in overcoming challenges and sharing our passions along the way with what we hope will be a long-term project.

I have faced many challenges in my life and my passion for cycling has helped me immensely through the tough times. Luke, Hans and I want young people to recognise their challenges and how they overcame them. We want to see their passion in their writing, we all look forward to reading what they have to say.”
Paul Withams, from WWSET added, “It’s so important to get children writing, especially to show their passion and how this has helped them overcome many challenges of the past year. Every child is able to enter, and we look forward to reading many excellent letters, the best work that everyone can produce.”
Entrants will be working on their letters both at home and in school. Deadline for their entries is Friday 19th March.
