At Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust we have been running a programme called Premier League Kicks, the aim of this is to to create safer communities and reduce youth offending by giving young people across High Wycombe access to free physical activity sessions including free football sessions, as well as opportunities for personal growth.
Currently, we offer four Premier League Kicks sessions, these include our Girls Active sessions that run on a Wednesday evening and our three football sessions that take place on a Friday evening at Highcrest Academy and then on two sessions on a Saturday evening at Cressex Astroturf: 8-12 year olds from 5pm to 6pm then 6pm – 7pm 13-18 year olds.
Within these sessions our Senior Delivery Officer Clare Bassett delivers high quality sessions to maximise the chance of participants reaching their full potential.
Here is what a few of our members of Premier League Kicks had to say about the programme:
“The coaches are really nice and also very supportive and it’s also fun” another participant highlighted how these sessions allow them to “make new friends and get exercise and an opportunity to play football”.
These sessions are also there to help members grow as individuals and feedback saying: “I wasn’t a confident person but attending these sessions allowed me to speak and give me more confidence” highlights the importance of what these sessions can do for young people. This person also stated that they enjoyed the “fun environment of playing a sport within Kicks”.
Out of our 16 participants who filled out our feedback form nearly 75% of people feel more confident and 100% of them enjoy and feel welcome at these sessions.
Since Premier League Kicks resumed we have also seen 55% of people say that they are better at handling stressful situations thanks to the guidance of our coaches, as well as that over 70% of members say that they get on better with adults and people from different backgrounds.
