This weekend our mighty Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust Elite Development Academy (EDA) squad travelled to North London to take on the academy prospects of Premier League giants, Arsenal FC.
Our players took to the stage on Saturday afternoon at the Arsenal Academy training ground playing against the Arsenal pre-academy group and what a treat they had in store for us.
Both teams came out flying with goals, goals, GOALS in the first few periods. Our players showed tremendous spirit, determination and work ethic when in and out of possession and Arsenal showed flair and sheer brilliance when being ruthless in front of goal. The afternoon would continue in the same vein, being jam-packed with goals, tricks and football being played at the highest quality with both teams being encouraged to take risks, be positive and express themselves throughout.
Here’s was our Elite Development Academy Manager – Lewis Bloom had to say about the fixtures: “These fixtures are invaluable for our players; they get the chance to showcase their ability to some of the best in the business while also being stretched and challenged which is what it’s all about. At our EDA we are always striving to grow and develop, days like this continue to allow us to do exactly that. It keeps both our players and coaches alike hungry for more and that’s exactly the culture and philosophy we want to set.”
We have to say a huge thank you to Arsenal FC Academy for inviting us to participate. What a great insight the day was for both our players and coaches, to be invited to such a prestigious club with unbelievable facilities, players and environment set by their staff. The day was also inspiring for the players, who we know aspire to the level where these facilities are the norm for them. We are extremely proud of the way our boys conducted themselves both on and off the field, and look forward to doing it again soon.
