The Chairgirls put on a dazzling performance under the Adams Park lights as they put six past Reading to secure another league win. Jess Watkins stunned with her impressive hat-trick, whilst Danielle Puddefoot, Kayla Potter, and Eman Kassem all made their way to the scoresheet.
It was a vibrant start for the Chairgirls who were quick off the mark to establish an early lead through player of the match, Watkins. It took only five minutes for the Blues to get ahead, as Watkins found herself on the end of a valiant cross into the box from Puddefoot, finishing with a lovely looping volley.
Minutes later, Watkins made it two as she converted another low cross delivered from Puddefoot, tucking it away in the back of the net from close range.
Having assisted the first two conversions, Puddefoot put herself on the scoresheet as she executed a fantastic free kick, which nestled directly over the top of the keeper – making it 3-0 to the Chairgirls in 11 minutes.
The remainder of the half lacked in any goals, as Reading’s keeper made some fantastic stops to deny the Chairgirls’ attempts, keeping the scoreline at 3-0 to the Blues going into the break.
Returning for the final 45, the hosts were quick to extend their lead even further, as Eman Kassem directed her header into the back of the net in the 47th minute to make it four for the Chairgirls.
The SRWFL’s top goal scorer, Kayla Potter, finally found the back of the net after various close attempts earlier in the game, as she slotted the ball past the Royals’ keeper in the 57th minute to further Reading’s deficit to five-goals-to-nil.
Watkins claimed her hat-trick in the 74th minute, as she was clinical with her touch and finish after stepping onto a through-ball from Potter.
As the game edged into the final five minutes, the visitors looked near to turning one into the back of the goal with a lofted hit, but Amber Taylor was able to make a fantastic save and tip it over the crossbar and out for a corner to keep the scoreline at 6-0 to the Blues.
The Royals denied the clean sheet for the Chairgirls late into the half, as their attacker rounded Taylor in goal and directed the ball into the far post in the 90th minute, finishing the game at 6-1.
The game ended with a fantastic 6-1 win for the Chairgirls, and three vital points to maintain the Blues’ position at second in the league table as the season begins to draw to a close.
Manager, Carl Simon, reflected on his side’s dominating performance in front of an impressive crowd at Adams Park, stating, “It was a really good game, more than what I could’ve hoped for.
“I think what we really wanted was to make sure that we put on a performance for the people that were coming today, we always want to represent women’s football, that’s always the objective. We’ve got a good team, but we always want to make sure we make the game competitive and the display and how we play football is represented on the pitch, so, I think we’ve done that today and I’m really happy with how the players played today.”
With only three games remaining for the Chairgirls this season, they now set their sights onto their next fixture in which they host Sholing at The 1878 on Sunday 30th March.
