Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust (WWSET) would like to say a massive thank you to our friends over at Luker Rowe, who joined us for Wycombe Wanderers’ midweek fixture with Burton Albion in the Papa John’s Trophy at Adams Park.

It was a big Adams Park welcome to Chris Luker, Luker Rowe Principle and his colleagues Andrew, Ian, Adam, Roger, Mandy, Peter, Rob, Eamonn, Mike and Phil, who occupied Executive Box 10 on the halfway line at Adams Park for the game. A pre-game meal of Pie & Chips as well as a Vegan Curry and glass of something fizzy was on the menu and served to warm the team up in the box as players warmed up on the pitch.
WWSET Head of Fundraising and Communications, Mark Fawkes then presented Chris with a personalised Chairboys shirt which sported the name LUKER ROWE over the number 21 in reference to the current 2021 season, rather than as a specific tribute to blues’ centre half, Jack Wakely – no offence, Jack! Chris commented that the shirt will be framed and placed in the Luker Rowe head office in Amersham. During the game, the team were able to see their name in the Wycombe Wanderers match day programme, BluePrint, and were also able to see their advert appear on the pitchside LED advertising boards that are new in the stadium for the 2021/22 season.
“We are honoured and excited to join WWSET here tonight as part of our sponsorship of WWSET”, Chris said before the game in his programme notes. “We have recently renewed our sponsorship of WWSET and we are very proud supporters of the great work they do locally and the successes they achieve. We are delighted to share these successes with our clients and partners to try and encourage further support for this fabulous charity.”
During the game, however, a young Wycombe side was no match for a travelling Burton squad in both teams’ final game in the tournament this season. Gareth Ainsworth made a plethora of changes, with only Adam Przybek, Jordan Obita, Brandon Hanlan and Chris Forino keeping their starting spots, with Anis Mehmeti being the most notable returnee to the line-up. Adam Leathers was the sole debutant.
In a quiet first half, the main chance came from Leathers, who fired in a speculative effort that was beaten away by Brewers’ keeper Ellery Balcombe. Shortly after, Obita could easily have given Wycombe the lead from a cracking Mehmeti cross, but his fizzing volley was straight at Balcombe. Przybek had to be on top form to deny Burton the opener on the half-hour mark, instinctively tipping a goalbound effort away from the goal. Przybek made another stunning save early on in the second half to deny Omari Patrick, who had cut inside and fired what looked to be an unsavable effort which the ‘keeper managed to get a hand on to push it wide.
However, from the resulting corner, former Chairboy Amadi-Holloway rose highest to knock past a helpless Przybek. With 20 minutes to play, the visitors doubled their lead. Przybek rushed out to claim a cross but was beaten to it by Amadi-Holloway, who knocked it in over the ‘keeper. To make matters worse for the Chairboys, Charlie Lakin fired a daisy-cutting shot into the bottom left corner to put the game beyond all doubt. Jonny Smith came off the bench to make it four moments later, bursting onto a long ball before calmly slotting past Przybek. Amadi-Holloway completed his hattrick with a towering header in stoppage time.
Despite the result, everyone had a good time. After the match, WWSET Head of Fundraising and Communications thanked Luker Rowe for their continued support. “We’d like to thank Luker Rowe for being a part of the journey with us here at WWSET. We have obviously had a tough time during the pandemic, as so many charities and other companies did also – but to have support from our fans such as Luker Rowe not only during the pandemic but in the aftermath means a lot as well. Their financial support means that we can continue our work in the community, and allows us to put on the best sessions we can as we continue to educate, motivate and inspire through the power of sport.”
Luker Rowe joined WWSET at the game as a ‘Friend of WWSET’. The Friends of WWSET package was relaunched in August 2021 as a way to build relationships with local companies, and earn much-needed funds to drive our projects forward.
