Kids and Girls Cup 2021

These national six-a-side football tournaments aim to encourage children to be active, healthy and develop a strong sense of teamwork. The tournament formats involve every EFL clubs community trust running two local tournaments for schools in their area. For the Kids Cup teams are made up of boys & Girls in school years 5 & 6 who battle it out to win the local stage tournament, and the Girls Cup follows a similar format but is played by girls in school years 7 & 8

The winners of the local stage tournaments then go on to represent both their school and Wycombe Wanderers SET in regional rounds against the winners of other clubs local tournaments and are split according to their clubs division. At this stage, all participants are playing for a place in the national final where the winners of the Northern region play against the winners of the Southern region to be crowned champions of the country. Both of the national finals are normally played in May on the hallowed turf of Wembley stadium; the boys before the Sky Bet Football League One Play-Off Final and the girls prior to the EFL Trophy Final.

WWSET’s two local cup tournaments saw us host 28 different primary and secondary schools with close to 250 children participating over the two events.

Both the Utilita Girls & Kids Cup were played out first with 4 groups of 4 teams battling it out to become group winners in a Champion’s League style format.

Following the group stages, all the winners were placed in a winners group for the second round, the runners-up in the next group and so on for the last two groups. This meant that all teams played continuously throughout the tournament with the same amount of game time for all, nobody was knocked out early, and all the participants could play the second round in an environment of similar ability levels.

After all, the second round group matches had been played the team crowned winners were the one that came out on top of the winner’s group.

The Utilita Girls Cup was played out first on and cold but sunny day on Thursday 25^th November with the following schools taking the field;

Eden Girls School

We had a clear and worthy winner who remained unbeaten after their overall six games throughout the day, HUGE Congratulations to Dr Challoners High School (Pictured below with Wycombe Wanderers midfielder, Nick Freeman).

The Utilita Kids Cup was played on Thursday 2^nd December and started with a light dusting of snow on the pitch for the first couple of fixtures which made it even more enjoyable for the players, with the  following schools competing for the title;

Again we had a clear winner remaining unbeaten throughout, HUGE Congratulations to Stoke Poges School (Pictured below).

We very much look forward to working with both Stoke Poges and Dr Challoners High School’s early in 2022, when Dan Moss our Senior Delivery Officer will provide both Schools with a strong pre-tournament training session as well as being on hand to assist the players in the regional finals.
