The afternoon of Friday 4th June 2021 sees the conclusion of Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust (WWSET)’s Half Term Soccer School based at Cressex Community School in High Wycombe.
The sessions were run by WWSET team members Andrew Homent, Clare Bassett and Jack Fowler, and dusting off his boots and winding back the years to ably assist the coaching was Head of WWSET, Paul Foley.
Upon arrival, the young players would be sorted into their age groups and start with a warm-up friendly match before a water break. Water breaks would prove to be an essential element in these sessions this week as the thermometer mercury would top out at 25 degrees on Wednesday.
The middle of the day would consist of skills and drills, such as dribbling, shooting, positioning and ball control. These skills brushed up the skills of young players and gave them the tools to practice in the afternoon.
The afternoons saw a roll-on-roll-off tournament between the teams, which would prove competitive but observed well. Regular water breaks were observed and a great time was had by all.
These sessions allows the kids to grow as footballers, but also saw great friendships being forged between the young players who took away with them a new appreciation of what it means to work as a team.
These sessions were great, and will return throughout the summer holidays.
