Chairboys Out In The Community!

Chairboys duo Tyreeq Bakinson and Declan Skura visited the Sports Leaders Alternative Provision at Cressex Astroturf on Wednesday, spending time with participants and joining in with coaching activities.

The programme is aimed at re-engaging secondary school aged children back into education through theory and practical lessons themed around football, covering teamwork, self-belief, communication, problem solving and self-management.

Upon completion of the course, all participants are award an accredited Level 1 award in sports leadership with a graduation ceremony at Adams Park.

Tyreeq and Declan took part in a Q&A and photos with the youngsters, as well as captaining the two teams, with Tyreeq’s edging the victory!

Kelly Rees, Head of Education & Employability, said: “The students really enjoyed having Tyreeq and Declan at the session, and were really engaged during the Q&A.

“They were inspired listening to their stories in football and the players’ own journeys. It was a really positive experience and an opportunity for students to interact with role models on the pitch.”

Meanwhile, Wanderers defender Jack Matton greeted Rabbi Neil Janes and Friar Stuart Owen at Adams Park along the route of their four-day ‘Soul Food Walk’ pilgrimage from Wallingford Castle in Oxfordshire to Berkhamsted Castle in Hertfordshire.

The route retraced a historic journey that took place nearly 800 years ago, and coincides with two significant religious festivals – the Jewish festival of Sukkot, and the Christian celebration of Harvest Festival.

And earlier this month, Jasper Pattenden and Kieran Sadlier attended a twinning project with Wycombe Wanderers Foundation at HM Prison Aylesbury, supporting football-based programmes to improve the mental and physical health and wellbeing of in-mates.

The sessions are targeted towards enabling participants to obtain a qualification which will help improve their opportunities of gaining employment upon their release.
