WWSET & The Big Community Takeaway Combat Local Food Poverty

Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust is pleased to announce that on Wednesday 23rd May we launched week-one of a five-week pilot project in partnership with Chesham-based charity, the Big Community Takeaway, to support local people who are facing food poverty.

Following the receipt of financial support from Buckinghamshire Council, WWSET is the chosen partner of the Big Community Takeaway in an effort to expand their current provision which currently focuses on Chesham, Amersham and the surrounding villages.

Between 23 March and 20 April 2022, the Big Community Takeaway will be working from Wycombe Wanderers home stadium, Adams Park, each Wednesday evening where WWSET will support them to offer a delicious FREE two-course meal to anybody living in the HP11, 12 and 13 postcodes.

For anybody in need who feels that they and/or their family members would benefit from receiving a meal you can place an order by CLICKING HERE which will take you to the Big Community Takeaway booking page. Should you not be able or comfortable booking online, please call the WWSET office on 01494 455736 and we’d be only too happy to take your booking over the phone.

Please also note that to be eligible to receive meals via this project, you must be registered with, or in the process of registering with Buckinghamshire Councils Helping Hand team, who help individuals or families in need, those on low incomes and those who are experiencing a financial emergency or crisis.

Finally, please be aware that the Big Community Takeaway and WWSET would be extremely grateful to anybody who wishes to support the project over the remaining four weeks by offering their time to deliver the meals. The timings would be between 5.30pm and 7.30pm on a Wednesday evening, and you wouldn’t need to commit to every week – just whatever you can manage.

First set up in May 2020, the Big Community Takeaway helps people in the community who are struggling, for whatever reason to bring support where it’s needed. The charity provides a two-course hot meal, supported by a team of amazing volunteers who help prepare, cook and deliver the food. To date, the Big Community Takeaway has raised over £51,000 which has enabled them to support 247 families in need by providing over 14,000 meals.

Upon the launch of the project, Head of WWSET Paul Foley said:

“Over the past couple of years, the Big Community Takeaway has done incredible work to support Buckinghamshire-based families and I’m delighted that WWSET is now working with them to support local Wycombe people in need. The number of people facing financial difficulties only seems to be growing so the chance to help our friends at the Big Community Takeaway support even more people over a greater geographical area was one that we were only too happy to grasp”

Mark Rosales, Head of Operations at Big Community Takeaway added:

“Over the past few years, we’ve had a great desire to expand our provision and it’s brilliant to be working with the WWSET team as well as Wycombe Wanderers FC on this pilot. We hope that this will, in time, lead on to a more sustained provision for those Wycombe families who are going through tough times”
