WWSET Celebrate Premier League Kicks 15-Year Anniversary

Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust helped the Premier League celebrate the 15-year anniversary of their flagship Kicks programme during February, as our Kicks participants travelled up to Reading Football Club to take part in a football tournament.

Premier League Kicks began back in the 2006/2007 season, with the aim of supporting young people in regular sporting/educational activities and create stronger, safer and more inclusive communities via the delivery of free weekly football sessions and educational workshops that help participants to reach their full potential.

On Tuesday 22nd of February a number a number of our Premier League Kicks participants had a fantastic opportunity to take part in a tournament held at Reading FC. Hosted in their indoor dome, the participants got the opportunity to play matches against Kicks teams representing Reading FC and MK Dons FC as well as taking part in an engaging workshop around racism within in football.

Head of Inclusion & Cohesion Luke Godfrey who led the Wycombe Kicks team on the day had this to say about the event:

“The day at Reading Football Club was fantastic overall. The football on show was brilliant and all the games were played in good spirit, with the players enjoying the opportunity to speak to young people from other teams. The event also included a very insightful workshop around racism which engaged the participants superbly to learn more about this topical subject.

Raheem a WWSET Premier League Kicks participant had this to say about the experience:

“The day was fun and I liked playing football with my friends. I have not had the opportunity to go to another place to play football before so I really enjoyed it”.

Thank you to our friends at Reading FC Community Trust for hosting and we look forward to playing more games in the near future!
