Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust (WWSET) would like to say a massive thank you and well done to British Army serviceman, Anthony Honey, who has smashed his fundraising target for Football Shirt Friday in association with Cancer Research UK.
Like Christmas Jumper Day, but for the humble football fan, Football Shirt Friday urges everyone to don their favourite kit and donate to help tackle bowel cancer. Football Shirt Friday was initially the brainchild of Stephanie Moore, the widow of the late, great Bobby Moore.
England and Spurs striker, Harry Kane, leads the promotion of the event this year, and said that “it doesn’t matter who you support, just pick a shirt and get your mates and colleagues involved if you can. Let’s make Bobby proud.”
While wearing a kit, fans are being urged to share a selfie on social media using #FootballShirtFriday and donate to the charity. People up and down the country are going to work in their football shirts today. And Chairboys fan, Anthony, who goes by Tony, has taken up the challenge. Tony set himself a target of £500.00, but has already smashed that out of the ‘Adams’ park.
But he is not just turning up at the office in his famous blue-quartered shirt. Tony is a British Army serviceman who is currently deployed to Kenya and will return to the UK in January 2022 when his current tour concludes. He has a few Wycombe Wanderers shirts with him, and he is working on converting his colleagues and teammates to the Chairboys way of thinking, as you can see in the photos below.
He has a background in football, and actually played at Wycombe Wanderers as a schoolboy from 1990 to 1996 before he joined the army, and his love for the club remains strong wherever he happens to be stationed at any given moment. He has a stong passion for health and fitness, and is also a qualified Personal Trainer.
Since his playing days, Tony has qualified as an FA level 2 football coach, with various other coaching qualifications, such as the FA Playmaker course, Respect for coaches, FA Safeguarding, Talent Identification badges, and work around equality and diversity.
“100% of the money raised will go towards funding pioneering bowel cancer research.” Tony said of his fundraising efforts through his Instagram page. “This is a charity close to my heart as I have lost family and friends by this, my target is £300 so anything you can spare would be great!!!” At the time of writing, Tony has raised a whopping £515.75 – approaching DOUBLE his target!
You can check out Tony’s Instagram page – @honey_t_fitness – for updates on how he is doing towards his targets or to see him flying the Chairboys flag around the world.
As Tony said, this is a great cause, so if you can spare a few quid for Tony and his fundraising campaign, here is the link: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/anthonys-giving-page-2021
