Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust (WWSET) are delighted to announce our new Digital Marketing partner, Big Gun Digital.
In September 2021, Big Gun Digital became the latest ‘Friend of WWSET‘ and became our Digital Marketing partner when they agreed to take over hosting and maintenance of the WWSET website after our previous hosting package with another company had expired.Mark Fawkes started with us in April 2021 as our Head of Fundraising and Communications and admitted that the WordPress-powered WWSET website had some… ahem… ‘issues’ under the hood. “I’ll be honest, when I first gained access to the backend of the site, I had a look around and I was shocked to see that there were a number of issues across the website!”, he said. Mark joined us after six years of experience within the digital marketing agency space, including the last two running his own agency, Arctic Wolf Marketing Ltd, and an 18-month stint with Big Gun Digital in 2017-2018.“The site was running WordPress version 5.0.8 which was released in December 2019, the latest version is 5.8.1, so it was a full two years of updates behind where it should be. You can do one or two with no problems, but making a significant jump like this would likely cause issues with the site so it’s best to ask an expert to do this. There was also very little security in place on the site – this is no great drama as we hold no personal data on the site – but still, we don’t want our site breached or taken down.”“Templates were also failing, many of the plugns were out of date, our contact form sporadically stopped working from time to time, there were also irrelevant, missing and expired plugins on the site. The list goes on and on and is endless.”That’s where Big Gun Digital came in to save the day!Digital Marketing Done Right!
Big Gun Digital are a Google Partnered, multi-discipline digital marketing agency based just down the road from us in Bourne End. They boast over a decade’s experience in high-quality digital marketing services, including designing, building and hosting high-performing websites, effective SEO strategies, cost-efficient PPC campaigns and high-quality photography and video content.Big Gun Digital is operated by Managing Director, Luke Foulkes, who founded the company in 2009. Under his leadership, Big Gun Digital has successfully grown from a one-man-band to a thriving organisation with a number of full time staff and a client base that spans from local businesses through to some of the largest organisations in the UK & abroad.“We’re super excited to come on board as WWSET’s Digital Marketing Partner and are proud to be able to support the charity with its requirements.”, said Tom Burton, Big Gun Digital’s Operations & Business Development Manager. “Having worked for WWSET as a sessional coach in my teenage years it’s great to be working with the charity again in a different capacity. All of us at Big Gun Digital are excited to be part of the Wycombe Wanderers Family”
As he says, Tom worked for WWSET as a coach from February 2015 to May 2016 where he reported to our Activity Programme Manager, Andrew Homent, who remains in the post to this day and speaks very fondly of Tom. Some business relationships are difficult to cultivate, but this is not one of them with Mark having full faith in Big Gun Digital having previously worked there, and with Tom knowing the ins-and-outs of WWSET, having worked here in the past!Mark added of the migration, “Within hours of taking over the WWSET site, Big Gun had the CMS updated and working like a dream. The plugins were updated, with the ones that weren’t needed taken out and some new SEO and security plugins added. The site’s template kept randomly breaking before but it consistently displays fine now, and they also installed an SSL certificate on the site, which is absolutely essential to any site in 2021!”.“The updates come at a good time for us so we can build an effective SEO strategy to go in line with our new content strategy that has shown some promising results over the summer. We can’t thank the team at Big Gun Digital – Luke, Tom, Nick, Adam, Donna and the rest of the guys – for their continued support and we look forward to working with them in the weeks, months and years to come.”
